The Salza in Styria offers fantastic white water amidst stunning natural scenery. Join us on a journey through one of the most beautiful river landscapes in the Alps.
The Salza in Styria is one of the most beautiful white-water rafting routes in the Alps. On this tour, you can look forward to crystal-clear water, exhilarating white-water sections, fantastic jump-off points into the river, as well as calm stretches where you’ll glide through breathtaking natural scenery. If you wish, you can fuel up with a brunch before the tour, and afterwards a hearty and well-deserved barbecue buffet awaits (optional). Rafting on the Salza offers both action and the chance to enjoy nature – and is perfectly suited to beginners too.

Meet at our base. Welcome from our guides and a brief overview of the tour. - Brunch at the Freelife Guesthouse (optional)
At brunch, you can look forward to a lovingly prepared breakfast buffet with fresh bread and pastries, a fine selection of cold meats and cheeses, spreads, yoghurt and fresh fruit, complemented by honey and a variety of jams. We’ll also serve coffee, water and naturally cloudy apple juice. - Equipment & Preparation
You’ll be provided with all your rafting equipment (wetsuit and shoes, helmet, life jacket, paddle). We’ll then travel together by bus to the launch point (approx. 15–20 minutes) - Safety briefing
Our guides will explain everything you need to know: paddling technique, commands and how to behave in white water – simply, clearly and with a practical focus. - Start of the adventure
Here we go! Together we’ll paddle through the first rapids and get used to the boat and the river. - Rafting on the Salza
Experience varied white water, turquoise-green pools and stunning natural scenery. Action, fun and teamwork take centre stage. We cover a longer stretch than on the half-day tour and make several stops along the way. We’ll take drinks with us on the tour for a refreshing break. - Jumping spots & enjoying nature
Depending on the water level, there are opportunities for swimming or cliff jumping – a real highlight! - Finish & return transport
Once we’ve reached the finish, we’ll take you back to base. There you can get changed, have a shower and wind down after the tour. - Barbecue at the Freelife Guesthouse (optional)
After the tour, you can round off the day in a relaxed atmosphere with our barbecue buffet in the outdoor dining area. You can look forward to a varied selection including meat (chops, Käsekrainer sausages, bratwurst), grilled vegetables, sweetcorn on the cob, baked potatoes, halloumi, as well as fresh salads, sauces and pastries – the perfect way to round off an action-packed day of rafting.Drinks are not included but a wide selection is available – from beer and shandy to white wine and schnapps, as well as non-alcoholic drinks – and will be charged separately.

If you’re looking for suitable accommodation: Right at the starting point of the tour is the Freelife Guesthouse, which offers cosy 2–4-bed rooms or dormitories, including breakfast.
Alternatively, the Freelife Apartments are available: two fully equipped apartments, each with two double bedrooms and a private kitchen, or two double bedrooms for a maximum of two people with a shared kitchen.
- Are there any vegetarian options at the barbecue?
Yes, our barbecue buffet also includes vegetarian options such as halloumi, baked potatoes, grilled vegetables, and a variety of salads and side dishes. Vegan options are also available (e.g. vegetables, potatoes, salads) – please let us know briefly when booking so that we can make the necessary arrangements. - Do I need any prior experience for rafting?
No. The tour is ideal for beginners. Our guides explain everything step by step. - Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes, basic swimming skills are a prerequisite for taking part. - How old do I need to be?
Participation is open to those aged 8 and over – see the ‘Requirements’ section. - What do I need to bring?
Swimwear, a towel. If you wear glasses, a glasses strap (also available to buy on site). - What equipment do you provide?
We provide a wetsuit and jacket, wetsuit boots, a lifejacket, a helmet and a paddle. - Does the tour go ahead in bad weather or rain?
Yes – rafting generally takes place whatever the weather. Rain often makes the experience even more intense. In the event of extreme conditions (e.g. extreme flooding, severe weather), we will contact you in advance. Should a tour have to be cancelled for safety reasons, no cancellation fees will apply. - How long does the tour last?
The Salza “Special” tour lasts a total of approx. 5–6 hours, including preparation and transfer. Pure river time is 2.5–3 hours. - Are there opportunities for swimming or jumping in the water?
Yes, depending on the water level, there are calm spots for swimming and, in some places, opportunities to jump in – always on a voluntary basis. - Is there a minimum number of participants per tour?
For a tour to go ahead, we require at least 4 participants per session. Individuals or small groups are always welcome – we’ll group participants together on site into suitable rafts so that you’re out on the water with other guests. - Is there a maximum number of participants per tour?
Thanks to our extensive facilities, we can accommodate group sizes of up to around 80 people per time slot. - How many people can fit in a raft?
The standard rafts can accommodate 8 participants plus a guide. We also have 10-person rafts and smaller 6-person rafts. ‘Mini-rafts’ can seat a maximum of 4 people. These can be booked separately. - Is rafting safe?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. Our guides provide professional supervision and instruction and meet all safety standards. - How does transport work?
We’ll take you all together from the meeting point to the launch site and back to base after the tour. - Are there photos from the tour?
Yes, we’ll provide you with free photos via our photo server. - What happens to my valuables?
These can be safely left at our base. - Are there changing rooms and showers?
Yes, these facilities are available at our base. - Can I take part if I have physical limitations?
