Schedule for the Advanced 2 kayaking course:
After a welcome from your kayaking instructor, you’ll receive a brief introduction to the course programme and will then be kitted out with the appropriate equipment at the camp – if you need it. You are, of course, also welcome to use your own equipment.
To start with, we’ll paddle a section of white water rated at difficulty level II–III. As we do so, we’ll brush up on the basics together and assess the participants’ skills to ensure the group is organised in the best possible way. At the same time, you’ll have the chance to ease into paddling and warm up at your own pace.
- Pull strokes, boof strokes, river safety, communication and much more!As the course progresses, we’ll focus specifically on perfecting your technical kayaking skills. The main focus is on advanced paddling techniques such as draw strokes and boof strokes, as well as general paddling techniques such as making the most of buffer zones or current tongues. As well as the technical aspects of kayaking, we’ll also work on your white-water tactics (scouting, assessing hazards and, above all, your own abilities) to enable you to navigate Class III white water safely and independently.
- Advanced river studies and fluid dynamics
- Paddling techniques on WW II rivers (eddies, rope ferries)
- Advanced paddling techniques (drag stroke)
- Introduction to the boof stroke and navigating steps and rollers
- White-water tactics, leading groups, scouting, communication on the river
- Revision of river safety (rescue techniques, throwing a rescue bag)
- Paddling independently on WW III river sections
- Accurately assessing one’s own abilities for future independent trips
- Consolidating advanced paddling techniques (draw stroke) and navigation techniques (e.g. buffer zones, connected eddies)
- Several days’ experience of white-water kayaking at difficulty level II (e.g. from our Advanced 1 course), which should not have been more than 1–2 years ago
