Canyoning in Bruckgraben
A challenging canyoning tour through a landscape of rock and stone
The Bruckgraben is one of the most magnificent canyons in Austria. Over millions of years, the water has carved out this stone masterpiece.
After a challenging approach, the tour rewards you with numerous abseil points, slides and an unrivalled atmosphere. The narrow gorge, which in places cuts down to a depth of 200 metres, is far from ‘idyllic’, but impresses with the unbridled power of nature, which commands a certain degree of awe from every visitor. The tour can only be undertaken in absolutely stable weather conditions.
- Getting there, equipment
Meeting point at 08:00 at Basecamp Gesäuse. A later start is not possible - Approach:
approx. 1.5 hours, requiring a good level of fitness - Tour:
The tour is challenging, with numerous abseiling sections and slides. There are no jumps on the route. Of particular interest are the traces and remains of the old timber flumes, which woodcutters painstakingly carved into the gorge hundreds of years ago and used at the time to transport timber. After the approx. 3–4-hour canyon walk, we reach the banks of the Enns. From here, it’s about a 20-minute walk back to the starting point. On hot days, we can even swim the last few metres back to the car park – with a magnificent view of the Gesäuse Mountains! - Shower facilities are available at Camp Enns after the tour.

- Do I need any prior experience for the Bruckgraben?
Yes, absolutely. This tour requires a good level of fitness due to the steep 1,5-hour hike to the entry point, as well as confidence and agility in the canyon. but it helps. You should be comfortable with downclimbing, sliding and tackling challenging abseiling sections. - What do I need to bring?
Swimwear, a towel. If you wear glasses, a glasses strap (also available to buy on site); it’s a good idea to bring a small snack. - What equipment will you provide?
We provide a wetsuit and socks, as well as shoes, a harness and a helmet. We also provide professional canyoning shoes (please state your shoe size and bear in mind that you’ll be wearing thicker neoprene socks). - Does the tour go ahead in bad weather or rain?
No, the tour is too dangerous even in light rain. The water level along the route can rise extremely quickly and would be life-threatening. There is only one emergency exit. Alternatively, we can offer a different tour (e.g. Fun-tastic) on the spot. - How long does the tour last?
From 8.00 am to approx. 3.30 pm - Can I skip certain sections if I don’t feel confident?
No, that’s difficult – there are hardly any options in this gorge. - Is there a minimum number of participants per tour?
For a tour to go ahead, we need at least 3 participants per session. Individuals are, of course, welcome to book too! - Is there a maximum number of participants per tour?
A maximum of 6 guests per guide! - Is canyoning safe?
