The Enns – Styria’s classic rafting destination – fantastic white water right in the heart of the national park.

The Enns is a true rafting classic in Austria and delights visitors with its varied white water and impressive mountain scenery. On our guided tours, you can look forward to exhilarating rapids, some challenging sections and also calmer stretches where you can enjoy the natural surroundings of the Gesäuse National Park. Rafting on the Enns combines action with a chance to experience nature – ideal for beginners and anyone who wants to experience real white water.

Itinerary for the Enns ‘Special’ rafting tour

Arrival & Check-in
Meet at our base. Welcome from our guides and a brief overview of the tour.
Equipment & Preparation
You’ll be given your full rafting kit (wetsuit and shoes, helmet, life jacket, paddle). We’ll then travel together by bus to the launch point (approx. 5–10 minutes)
Safety briefing
Our guides will explain everything you need to know: paddling technique, commands and how to behave in white water – simply, clearly and with a practical focus.
Start of the adventure and ‘warm-up’ section.
Here we go! Together we’ll paddle through the first rapids and get used to the boat and the river. After about 30 minutes on the river, the current will take us to the Gesäuse entrance, our most challenging rapid further upstream.
Rafting on the Enns
Experience varied white water up to difficulty level 4 and impressive natural and mountain scenery.
Introductory canyoning in Bruckgraben
After the Gesäuse entrance, we land on a gravel bank and walk through the lower part of the Bruckgraben Gorge (approx. 45 minutes). There are a few minor ‘scrambling sections’ to negotiate. No jumps or abseiling are required. The gorge offers unrivalled natural scenery. After the gorge walk, we continue the tour by raft to the final rapid, the Schlusskatarakt.
Finish & Return Transport
Once we reach the exit point, we’ll take you back to base. There, you can get changed, have a shower and relax as the tour draws to a close.

Accommodation options

If you’re looking for suitable accommodation: right at the starting point of the tour is the Freelife Guesthouse, offering cosy 2–4-bed rooms or dormitories, with breakfast included.

Alternatively, the Freelife Apartments are available: two fully equipped apartments, each with two double bedrooms and a private kitchen, or two double bedrooms for a maximum of two people with a shared kitchen.

FAQ

Do I need any previous experience to go rafting?
No. The tour is ideal for beginners. Our guides explain everything step by step.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes, basic swimming skills are a prerequisite for taking part.
How old do I need to be?
You must be aged 12 or over to take part – see the ‘Requirements’ section. For families, we offer a slightly adapted route on the Enns ‘Family’ route (for ages 10 and over).
What do I need to bring?
Swimwear, a towel. If you wear glasses, a glasses strap (also available to buy on site).
What equipment will you provide?
We provide a wetsuit and jacket, wetsuit boots, a life jacket, a helmet and a paddle.
Does the tour go ahead in bad weather or rain?
Yes – rafting generally takes place whatever the weather. Rain often makes the experience even more intense. In the event of extreme conditions (e.g. extreme flooding, severe weather), we will contact you in advance. Should a tour have to be cancelled for safety reasons, no cancellation fees will apply.
How long does the tour last?
The half-day tour lasts a total of approx. 3–3.5 hours, including preparation and transfer. Time spent on the river is 1.5–2 hours.
Are there opportunities to swim?
Yes, depending on the water level, there are calm spots where you can swim.
Is there a minimum number of participants per tour?
For a tour to take place, we require at least 4 participants per session. Individuals or small groups are always welcome – we’ll pair participants with suitable rafts on the day so that you’ll be out on the water with other guests.
Is there a maximum number of participants per tour?
Thanks to our extensive facilities, we can accommodate groups of up to around 80 people per time slot.
How many people can fit in a raft?
The standard rafts can accommodate 8 participants plus a guide. We also have 10-person rafts and smaller 6-person rafts.
Is rafting safe?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. Our guides provide professional supervision and instruction and meet all safety standards.
How does transport work?
We’ll take you all together from the meeting point to the launch site and back to base after the tour.
Are there photos from the tour?
Yes, we’ll provide you with free photos via our photo server.
What happens to my valuables?
These can be safely left at our base.
Are there changing rooms and showers?
Yes, these facilities are available at our base.
Can I take part if I have physical limitations?
Please make sure to discuss any health or physical limitations with us in advance so that we can cater for your individual needs.
